Jim, Caleb and Kara JDRF Walk Hidden Lake

The walk has a lot of activities for families and events for kids. Caleb and his cousin Jade were able to pose as a pirate and a princess.

Caleb was also able to practice his basketball shooting skills.

A view of the walk and it's festivities.

We would like to take this opportunity to THANK all our family and friends who supported our walk by donating to our team! Thank you all!!!

Flag Football

Fall is upon us and flag football has become a part of our weekends for the next several weeks. The photos and video below are from Caleb's second game. We took the video camera to his first game but when we opened it to take pictures and record the battery was dead (oh well we came prepared for week 2). Caleb is loving all the fast action and fun of flag football. Go Caleb...Go Bears...Go Steelers!!!

A hole, some paint, flowers and a door

This past weekend we had the wonderful pleasure of having my parents in to visit. It was an extremely productive weekend around the house both inside and out. Dad and Jim worked on fixing a leak in the basement which meant having to dig up a small area beside the house...hence a hole! Then Jim and Caleb did a little painting on some of the wood work around the house for it was starting to chip so they scraped off the old paint and applied the new...hence some paint!! Mom and I were able to move some of the flower from the front of the house and plant some very hardy mums, iris', daffodils, and tulips...hence flowers! Finally one of the major projects completed this weekend was the installation of a new screen door in the front of our house...hence a door!! There were many fun times where we all laughed...and by working together we accomplished a lot! I want to thank my parents for taking time off work to travel out here to help us get a few projects done around the house!!

Labor Day Fun

Last Monday we spent the day with Jim's dad, Denise, sisters, brother, nieces, and nephew. It was so nice. In the morning Caleb and I made Rice Krispy Treats together for the afternoon picnic. Once we got to the Thornberry household in Hobart the fun began. We had a wonderful time talking and catching up with everyone. Soon Jim and I will be uncle and aunt and Caleb a new cousin to Jim's sister, Heather's, baby boy to be born in October. While Nana cooked a wonderful meal on the grill the little kids and a couple of big kids got the chance to play with the hoover disc. All i can say is that it kept us all entertained for a large part of the day. Check out the video below of our fun times with the totally awesome Hoover Disc!! We hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Labor Day!! Caleb starts flag football soon so stay tuned for some new blogs!!

Start of/back to SCHOOL for 2 of us!!!

Well this past week Caleb started kindergarten and I started back to school. On Wednesday Jim, Sherry (Caleb's mom) and I were all able to take him to his first day of kindergarten!! No tears were shed, but it was a very happy time for our family taking another step into a new direction. Caleb's first week went very well, right now he is attending morning kindergarten. He rides the bus when he with his mom and when he is here with his dad and I Jim will take him and pick him up. He colored a few worksheets, worked on his letters, tracing skills, sung some songs, visited the computer lab and library. I'm sure that we will have many more school stories to tell so stay tuned! I started back and honestly cannot wait until our first break!!!

Moving Bliss

Well i know that our posts have been few and far between but our lives have been very hectic. We closed on a new house in Portage, IN on Thursday July 16th. Friday the 17th was moving day for Jim and all of his friends. They packed up the Uhaul and filled the house with all of our stuff!! I had to opt out of most of the moving day festivities for we had many out of town guests coming in that Friday for our Indiana reception which was held on Saturday the 18th of July. We love it here and are excited to be starting a new chapter in our lives.

July 4th 2009!!

This year to celebrate the 4th of July we decided to go to the Portage Parade with our friends the Carvers. They were so gracious to save us a prime seat along the parade route so that we could sleep in a few extra minutes. The weather was "ehh" but fun was had by all. Deb (the quick thinking mother) brought bubbles and sidewalk chalk for the kids to play with before, during and after the parade. The pictures below show all the kids (Caleb, Maddy and Kenzie) having a grand ole' time and a little snapshot of their fine artwork!!

Taste of Chicago 2009!!

Each year there is a food festival in Chicago called the Taste of Chicago, it has been going on since 1980. Many different restaurants in Chicago have booths that serve meals or just a taste of some of their famous entrees. Ever since I moved here 5 years ago I have always wanted to attend the "Taste" as it is referred to by many in Chicagoland, but haven't had the opportunity until this year. Our friends Terra and Jeff were in town from Cleveland and we decided to meet up with them at the taste. Jim, Caleb and I took the train into the city, the weather was beautiful and fun was had by all. Check out some of our pictures below!

Summer Nights

Well after a few days of Jim and I being sick and passing it from one another we finally were well enough to hang out tonight as a family. Caleb spent a little time with his mom and last night was our first night with him, in about a week. We had plans to head into Hobart and have dinner at one of the little restaurants in town but our plans changed. There was a little market going on in town and we decided to walk around there and ended up eating dinner there at the market. After dinner and the shopping trip we headed back to the car to get the bread that we brought with us so that we could feed the ducks in Lake Front Park. The weather was so nice we just took our time walking along the lake, feeding the ducks and feeding the seagulls. Then it was time to go see the Disney movie "UP" at the local theater in Hobart. We always have a good time there for it shows movies a few weeks after they are out and have great deals on refreshments as well. Stay tuned for more posts as the holiday weekend gets started we have lots of plans! Happy and Safe 4Th of July to you all...God Bless!!
